Ice causes crash

White River Township Fire Chief Bob Henry, left, and tow truck driver Bob Biddle work to tow one of five vehicles involved in a chain-reaction collision which injured five people in White River Township this morning. The accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. when a 1979 Mercury headed east on Smith Valley Road skidded on the icy road and passed into the westbound lane striking a 1964 Ford Galaxy headed west about a half mile east of State Road 135, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Department report. Three other cars following the Ford then collided. The injured were taken University Heights Hospital in Indianapolis and St. Francis Hospital Center in Beech Grove (Reprinted with permission from the Indianapolis News)
