Chimney fire damages home

A chimney fire caused minor damage to a home in the 3000 block of W. Olive Branch Road late Sunday night, said Pat McDaniel, assistant fire chief for White River Township Volunteer Fire Department.  White River and Bargersville Volunteer Fire Department members were at the scene about 90 minutes.  Fire Department members had to dismantle a wall brick by brick at Robert W. Hagner’s residence to get to the chimney to extinguish the blaze, Mrs. McDaniel said.  Mrs. McDaniel said the cause of the fire is unknown.  Family members told firemen a flue fire occurred at the home earlier in the day, but went out when Hagner shut down the fireplace.  Firemen were not called to the first fire.  Mrs. McDaniel said firemen do not know if the earlier fire could have rekindled.
