Rescue truck fee established
Residents
in White River Township will pay for emergency rescue services provided by the
township volunteer fire department. Members of White River Township Volunteer
Fire Department have voted to charge a $35 fee for each run made by the
department rescue truck. Billing for the service will begin September 1. The
fire department has no ambulance. A private ambulance firm in Greenwood
provides ambulance service. Kevin Demaree, chairman of the department rescue
squad fundraising committee, said volunteer fire departments do not receive tax
dollars to pay for rescue trucks and operating expenses. The fees charged
patients will be used to pay a $13,000 debt remaining on the rescue squad and to
maintain the unit.
