Fire departments get grant
The
Indiana Emergency Medical Services Commission recently awarded a grant to six
Johnson County fire departments to assist them in purchasing emergency rescue
gear. The grant, which totals almost $15,000, will be used to purchase
automobile extrication equipment-used to assist in the removal of accident
victims trapped in vehicles-and other emergency medical and rescue equipment.
The six departments that will share the grant are Amity, Bargersville, Franklin,
Greenwood, Needham, and White River Township. The grant is a challenge grant,
meaning the departments must come up with an additional $2,600 before the funds
will be paid. That amount equals 15 percent of the total cost of the equipment
to be purchased. The grant, request was submitted by the project director Rick
Cooley of the White River Township Volunteer Fire Department, and the Johnson
County Commissioners. The grant is the largest ever rewarded by the commission
to Johnson County departments, according to county fire officials. It resulted
from six months of planning and the completion of training programs to meet the
grant requirements.
