Fire not caused by gunpowder

A fire that extensively damaged a home in Carefree South over the weekend was not caused by the ignition of gunpowder in an attached garage, according to the White River fire spokeswoman Pat McDaniel. Since the fire early Saturday morning, rumors have been circulated that the fire was caused by gunpowder stored in the house. Investigators,  from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, have been unable to pinpoint the cause of the fire that swept through the garage and the kitchen of the Dexter Adams residence, 4034 Nevermind Way. But according to Mrs. McDaniel, a small store of gunpowder in the house was not involved in the fire, which started in the garage, well away from the gunpowder. She said rumors that gunpowder was involved might have started when firefighters removed some guns from the home just after the blaze in order to inventory them. Onlookers saw the guns at that time, she said. “The only gunpowder as such was one little keg,” Mrs. McDaniel said. She estimated that keg was the size of a coffee can and added that guns and gun accessories were stored in a part of the house that was not affected by the fire.  See a related story HERE (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
