Arsonist ousted
A
volunteer fire fighter, who plead guilty in April to setting fire to a mobile
home he owned, has been removed from the White River Fire Department. The
department board of directors dismissed Douglas Chambers at a May 2 board
meeting. Pat McDaniel, a department spokesperson, said because the department
bylaws permitted Chambers to appeal the action to the full membership, his
dismissal was provisional until the next membership meeting. She said Chambers
did not appear at the meeting. The incident that lead to his dismissal involved
a fire at a mobile home Chambers owned in the Wheel Estates mobile home park in
White River Township. Douglas plead guilty to a Class D felony offense. In a
statement filed in Johnson Circuit court he admitted setting the fire to collect
money on an insurance policy he held on the unit. He helped extinguish the
fire. See a related story HERE.
