Child died of blood clot
Angela
Cheryl Davis died from a blood clot in the brain caused by severe head bruises,
according to Johnson County Coroner Richard Tudor. “The contusion could have
been caused by shaking the child repeatedly very hard, by a bump or several
bumps to the head, or by both,” Tudor said. The 14 month-old girl died at her
mother’s home at 177 J Court, Wheel Estate, on Nov. 23. Her mother, Kimberly Lee
Davis, and a boyfriend who lives at the Wheel Estate address, Larry Lee Phelps,
told investigators she suffered the injury when she fell against a plastic milk
crate, according to deputy prosecutor Bob Shook. Shook met with Tudor and
Johnson County Sheriff’s Investigators Monday to review the case. A grand jury,
scheduled to begin Monday, will review the evidence to determine if charges
should be filed against the mother and her boyfriend. The proceedings will be
held at the Johnson County Jail because of lack of room at the Johnson County
Courthouse. Shook, who will be in charge of the grand jury, said that it will
recess following Monday’s hearings and resume again Wednesday at the jail. He
said more than one case will be considered by the jurors. See related
