Car fire ignites building

Onlookers check out the damage to Newkirk Realty and Insurance building Friday afternoon after a Camaro Z28 caught fire and ignited the building.  Bargersville fireman Tom Umbarger said the call came in as a car fire.  He reported thee was smoke damage to the entire building and some water damage to the end of the building where the fire was located.  Damage estimates were not available.  Bargersville and White River fire units responded to the call.  A witness said the car owner, Tom Newkirk, was burned when he attempted to put out the fire in the car.  He was treated at Johnson County Memorial Hospital's emergency room and released, according to a hospital report.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
