Patients evacuated from Greenwood nursing home
More than 60 patients were evacuated from their section of Fountainview Place Nursing Home 1400 W. Main St., Greenwood, late Friday night after employees received a bomb threat. Police said the home received a telephone call about 11:25 p.m. Friday. The caller, who police believe to be a woman, asked for the B wing of the complex and told an employee that “a bomb will go off in 10 minutes.” Four Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies and units from the Greenwood and White River Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene. Police said 64 patients staying in B wing were taken into the complex cafeteria as a search was conducted of the wing. Police did not find a bomb in that area of the home, and were checking other areas of the building just after midnight. Fifteen pieces of firefighting equipment were at the home as a precaution, but the Greenwood department was released from the scene after the first search proved futile. The White River volunteers planned to stay at the building until 12:45 a.m. today. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
