Fire caused by extension cord

Fire resulting from an overheated extension cord Tuesday night damaged the living room of a house in Carefree North subdivision, White River Township, according to White River Township Fire Department spokesperson. The fire at the James E. Showalter residence, 915 Leisure Lane, Greenwood, was confined to the living room, the spokesperson said. No damage estimate is available at this time. Seventeen firefighters and three cadets battled the fire while units from Perry Township hauled water to the scene. The nearest fire hydrant was a mile away, according to fire department officials. Myers Ambulance personnel treated three for heat exhaustion and smoke White River firemen at the scene for smoke inhalation. Bargersville Firefighters stood by at the White River station to handle any additional calls.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
