Woman shot at picnic Saturday

An Indianapolis woman was in satisfactory condition this morning in St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove, after she was shot in the arm Saturday during a picnic in Wheel Estates South. Nancy Brantingham, 34, was shot once in the right forearm with a .22 caliber gun, according to a report filed by Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Pritchard. Sgt. Robert Bishop later recovered a spent shell approximately 130 yard from the victim. According to the report, Mrs. Brantingham is the wife of the trailer parks manager, Bill Brantingham. Police speculate that the shooting was accidental. The shot came from an area frequently used for target practice. Police say Brantingham knew of no reason why anyone would shot his wife. The victim was treated at the scene by White River Township rescue worker.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
