Body of 'Witness' identified
The body of a man found lying beside a lane east of
Greenwood yesterday has been identified by authorities as a witness in a recent
shooting incident at Speedway. The murder victim, Steven W. Presley, 24, 3400
block of W. 10th, Indianapolis, was shot three times in the head
according to Sgt. William Bradley, of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.
Presley was found about 7 a.m. by Clifford Meadows, a resident of the area, as
he was leaving for work. “It appears he was shot with a 38 caliber gun,” Bradley
said. The body was found along Morgantown Road just south of the Johnson-Marion
county line. No weapon was found. An autopsy was conducted yesterday at Johnson
County Hospital in Franklin. The body was fully clothed but had no
identification, Bradley said. “We traced him to relatives through an envelope
found in his clothing,” Bradley said. “The envelope had his name on it.”
Speedway Det. A.N. Ellwanger said Presley was in the car of another Indianapolis
man arrested in connection with an April 19th shooting incident at
the Classic Motor Lodge in Speedway.
