3 Farm buildings destroyed in fire
Fire of suspicious origin destroyed, two vacant barns and a milk house on a farm in northwest Johnson County today. The fires were reported shortly after 2 a.m. White River Township Fire Chief Bob Wehrman said the fire could be seen more than three miles. More than 40 firefighters from White River Township, Bargersville, and Greenwood in Johnson County, Harrison Township of Morgan County and Perry Township of Marion County, battled the flames several hours before the blazes were brought under control. Several firefighters were treated for minor eye injuries at the scene. Wehrman said eight pumpers and tankers were sent to battle the fires and firefighters from Madison Township in Morgan County stood by to protect Harrison Township. He said the two wooden barns were about 400 feet apart and investigators spent most of the day searching for a cause. Damage was not estimated. (Reprinted with permission from the Indianapolis News)
