Firefighters
The following letter to the editor was reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal:
To the editor,
It is
extremely difficult to find words to express one’s gratitude to a group of
volunteer firemen and a firewoman, who responded immediately to a very early
call on a cold morning and saved our house from destruction, at 3 a.m. Monday,
Feb. 4. We are referring to the White River Township Volunteer Fire Department
who came to our rescue. It was truly unbelievable to see how they carried
tarpaulins to cover the carpet, as they unrolled the necessary hose and set up
the exhaust system, in just moments. The female who responded was sure doing her
fair share of the work too, as she carried out charred wood paneling and debris
from the fireplace. It is our understanding that Volunteer Fire Departments
receive very limited funds from any source, other than through contributions
made by residents of the area where they operate. You can bet that the next time
a flyer is left at our door requesting a donation, we will do our share. Again,
we wish to say Thanks, to the White River Township Volunteer Fire Department,
and we are sure we all need to be more aware of their fine service to us.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pauls, Greenwood
