Rash of fires in WRT
White River firefighters responded to seven trash,
grass and field fires in a three-day period. On Friday at 3:04 p.m., the firemen
were called to the Joan Junkon residence, 3357 Saddleclub Road to fight a field
and grass fire. Bargersville firemen also responded to the scene. Three similar
fires on both Saturday and Sunday kept the White River fire crews busy. On
Saturday at 11:01 a.m., the firemen responded to a grass and shed fire at the
George Allen residence, Lot 210 Wheel Estates, where Perry Township firemen were
called in to assist with stopping the flames. The White River department fought
cornfield fires at the David Hix residence on Olive Branch Road at 4:27 p.m. and
at the Rex Richards residence on Paddock Road at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, cornfield and
trash fires sent the firemen to the R.C. Groseclose resident at Olive Branch and
Morgantown Roads at 11:20 a.m., the Miller residence on Runyon Road at 1:30 p.m.
and at another unidentified location in Bluff Acres at the same time. At
Greenwood on Sunday, firemen battled a trash fire at the Bernie Martin
residence, 1057 West Main Street at 4:08 p.m. and a barn fire at the Virgil
Covert residence, Greenwood Route One, at 3:05 p.m.
