Woman involved in freak accident

A White River Township woman was injured Tuesday when she was pinned against a wall by her own car. According to a report filed by Johnson County sheriff’s deputies, Mrs. Madonna Rogers, 21, lot 355, Wheel Estates Trailer Court, pulled into the parking lot of the Friendly Foods store on County Line Road about 9 p.m. Tuesday to use the telephone on the front wall of the building. Mrs. Rogers told deputies she left the keys in the “accessory” position on the ignition switch of her manual-transmission Ford Pinto, so that her three-year-old son could listen to the radio while she used the phone. Deputy Harvey Thompson said the child apparently turned the keys and engaged the starter, causing the car (which was in a forward gear) to lurch forward, jump a curb and pin Mrs. Rogers against the wall. The White River Township Fire Department and Myers Ambulance Service were called to the scene, and Mrs. Rogers was taken to Johnson County Memorial Hospital. Authorities said she suffered a badly bruised left knee, and was released after receiving treatment. Ironically, authorities said, Mrs. Rogers had been at the emergency room of the hospital just two hours earlier to have her son’s stitches taken out.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
