Three injured in mishap

Three persons, including a 14-month-old baby, were treated and released at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove Tuesday night following a two-car collision on State Road 135 near the intersection of Fairview Road. Vernace Bowman, 78, Indianapolis, one of the drivers, was treated for a rib injury. Also treated was his wife, Rose Bowman, 70, who complained of a back injury and another passenger in the Bowman auto, Stephanie Williams, 14 months-old, whose injuries were not known. The accident occurred when the car driven by Bowman was involved in a collision with a car driven by Henry D. Anders, 35, Indianapolis. Both cars were northbound on State Road 135 when the accident occurred. Traffic was backed up several miles on the busy highway following the accident, which occurred about 5:15 p.m. White River Township workers aided the victims and helped direct traffic. State Patrolmen Larry Carmichael and Mel Walker also assisted at the scene.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
