MD funds raised
Johnson County groups and individuals joined in the nationwide campaign to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association this weekend. Although there was no official tabulation of all the pledges that county organizations and individuals helped raise in the campaign against the crippling disease, the figure probably is well over $10,000. Nationwide, more than $26 million was raised in the 21 and one-half hour telethon sponsored by comedian Jerry Lewis. Among the area groups which participated were Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department, which raised $3,436 and the Franklin Fire Department which collected $3,111. Also participating in the fundraising effort were fire departments from Edinburg and White River Township, the Indian Creek FFA, Greenwood Jaycees, the Franklin Skate Club and the Big Red Barn of Greenwood. A year ago, the nationwide campaign collected more than $21 million. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
