Dozing driver slightly hurt

A dozing driver escaped serious injury Thursday night after his car veered off Smith Valley Road. Just west of State Road 135 and sheared off a utility pole, causing minor tree fires and a power outage for area residents. Daniel Miller, 22, Greenwood Route Four, complained of chest pains after the accident, but refused transportation to the hospital, according to White River Township rescue workers at the scene. He reportedly told sheriff’s deputies he had apparently fallen asleep. The 1:37 a.m. crash caused a number of small fires when sparks ignited nearby trees. Residents along Smith Valley Road were advised to stay inside their homes because of downed live wires, and electricity was knocked out for several miles.  (Reprinted with permission of the Daily Journal)
