Firefighter recognition

William C. Goodwin, center in photo below, Indiana State Fire Marshal, presented certificates and arm patches Tuesday night to members of the Johnson County Fire Association at a dinner meeting hosted by the Edinburg Fire Department. County fire chiefs who accepted awards for their firemen are, from left, Len Lanahan, Needham Fire Chief; Bill Jones, Trafalgar Chief; Wayne Walters, New Whiteland Chief; Bob Reed, Greenwood Assistant Chief; Goodwin; Bill Cantwell, Franklin Fire Chief; Gene Bruner, Whiteland (rural) Chief; Unie Brooks, Nineveh Chief, and Robert Wehrman, White River Township Chief. The certificates designate degrees of proficiency in firefighting. The top rating, Master Firefighter, requires at least five years of service plus over 200 hours of training.  (Reprinted with permission of the Daily Journal)
