County fire instructors receive training

       Sunday concluded a fire instructor training course sponsored by the Indiana Fire Instructors’ Association in cooperation with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office held at the Franklin Community Center. Some members of the Tri-County Firemen’s Association and the Franklin Fire Department were in attendance. Instructors for the 30 hour course which was conducted over the last two weekends were Larry H. Bosell, President of the IFIA, and Curtis A. Gilmore, Secretary-Treasurer for IFIA. The firemen were taught principles involved in speech techniques, use of visual aids, and testing and evaluating in teaching fire prevention. They also had practice sessions where they criticized each other’s instruction methods. Those firemen who attended the sessions received certificates. They were H.L. (Red) Orr, New Castle; Don Bundy, Flat Rock; Don Henderson, Flat Rock; Ray Catron, Nineveh; Bill Branson, Shelbyville; John Pardo, Wayne County; Dennis Kunkowski, Chesterfield; Bill Eyester, Warren Township, Indianapolis; and Jerry Kahl, Liberty. Also, Kerry Moon, Liberty; Dave and Pat McDaniel, White River Township, Johnson County; Chief George Melton, Greenwood; Bob Read, Greenwood; Keith Longfellow, Lewisville; Larry Tames, Whiteland; Chief Dean Brandt, Lebanon; and Theodore R. Cook, Mooresville. And Larry Wildey, Milroy; Melvin Tallent, Milroy; James Donna, Vigo County; Henry Sims, Bedford; and Dave Fishel, White River.  (Reprinted with permission of the Daily Journal)
