Bancroft citied as firefighter
Dale Bancroft, a resident of Wheel Estates South, has been named White River Township’s “Fireman of the Year.” The 33-year-old firefighter has been a volunteer on the department for four years. He participated in 170 of the department’s 349 fire and rescue runs last year. A resident of the White River Township area for the past 10 years, Bancroft is an emergency medical technician for Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis. Last year, Bancroft and his fellow firefighters were called to an electrical fire at his own residence. A fire had started in the fuse box in his sons’ bedroom of the family’s mobile home. Noting that it is very difficult to save a trailer which is struck by fire, Bancroft credits the department for their “excellent response time.” The Bancroft family is still living in the trailer, though a bedroom and bathroom were destroyed by flames, he points out. Bancroft, who is the department’s training officer, spends more than 20 to 30 hours a week, plus training time, at the station. “I really feel it’s a great honor and a good feeling to be named “Fireman of the Year. There were probably 21 other guys that deserved it as much as I did,” Bancroft said of his designation as the department’s outstanding staff member. Bancroft and his wife have three children.
