Greenwood area youths wounded
Two Greenwood area youths, both shot and wounded with the same .38 caliber bullet, were released after treatment Saturday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Authorities said the shooting occurred in a bedroom of a residence at 202 Serenity Way, Greenwood, Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy Gary Miller said the incident has been ruled accidental. David Romer, 15, 4070 Serenity Way Court, was treated for a flesh wound in his back. A companion, Martin Eckert, 15, 22 Restin Road, Greenwood, was treated for a gunshot wound in his left hand. Miller said the two youths, along with Mark Chrisman, 15, 295 Restin Road, Greenwood, were visiting Jeff Chipman, 15, at his parents’ house, 202 Serenity Way at the time of the incident. According to Miller, the four youths were playing with a .38 caliber revolver and decided to load one hollow point shell into the weapon. Miller said that Chrisman was sitting on a bed facing his three companions when the gun accidentally discharged. The bullet grazed Romer across the back and passed through Eckert youth’s left hand before lodging in a wall. The shooting occurred about 1:45 p.m. Saturday, he said. The youths were treated at the scene by rescue workers from the White River Township Volunteer Fire Department and were transported to Methodist Hospital by the Myers Ambulance Service. Miller said no charges were filed in connection with the incident. (Reprinted with permission of the Daily Journal)
