House gutted by fire
Fire destroyed the home of Greenwood family this morning as Greenwood and White River Township firefighters were unable to control the blaze after water supplies were exhausted. The home, located at 851 Floyd Lane, is owned by Bob Nealy. Fire broke out inside of the house at about 10:30 a.m. this morning. Greenwood firefighters first answered the call but were unable to put out the fire as the nearest fire hydrant was located at the Fry Road sanitation plant. A 1,600 gallon tanker was called from White River Township Volunteer Fire Department to help extinguish the blaze. However, once that water supply diminished, firefighters were unable to save the home. The house was empty at the time of the fire. Nealy, his wife, Carol, and their six children were staying with Mrs. Nealy’s mother at a nearby home after experiencing heating difficulties at their home. Cause of the fire and an estimate of the damages have not yet been determined. (Reprinted with permission of the Daily Journal)
