White River barn fire extinguished

The White River Township Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene of a barn fire Saturday night on the Paddock Road, south of Old Smith Valley Road. According to reports, a barn owned by Ralph Ratliff, Indianapolis, was on fire at that location at 10 p.m. Firemen said the barn was filled with hay and storage items of an undetermined value. The fire crew was recalled to the scene at 3:30 a.m. Sunday after the barn rekindled. The barn and its contents were completely destroyed, but there was no damage to an empty house next to it. The exact cause of the fire has not been determined.  (Reprinted with permission of the Daily Journal)
