Three burned in home fire
A
teen-age couple and their seven-month-old daughter were burned in a fire in the
kitchen of their home on Smith Valley Road at Peterman Road in White River
Township. Terry Drain, 19, suffered first degree burns on his face and first,
second, and possible third degree burns on his hands in attempts to put out a
fire which started in the kitchen of the residence from a pan of grease on the
stove. Drain was admitted to the Johnson County Memorial Hospital. Brenda Drain,
18, was treated and released at the hospital following the 8:20 p.m. fire Monday
evening. Her daughter, Shawn, seven months, received first degree on her hands
and face and was treated and released. The fire, which resulted in approximately
$1,000 damage, was confined to the kitchen area. The fire was extinguished by
White River volunteer firemen, who made the estimate of damage. Firemen also
reported that due to the amount of heat which had built up in the kitchen, a
front window was blown approximately 25 feet into the residence driveway.
Firemen reported that no one was injured in the explosion.
