Two drivers killed in head-on crash

Two men were killed Saturday night in a grinding two-car head-on collision west of Greenwood on State Road 135, state police said.  Fatally injured were 21-year-old James Payton, Jr., of Morgantown, and Hollis E. Hervey, 28, of Indianapolis.  The fatal crash occurred about 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 135 at Fry Road, about two miles west of Greenwood.  State Police said both Payton and Hervey were killed instantly in the crash.  Hervey's wife, Darlene H. Hervey, 26 years old, was hospitalized in fair condition at Indianapolis Methodist Hospital.  According to state police Payton was driving south on State Road 135, and Hervey and his wife were en route north on the two-lane highway when the cars collided.  White River Township Volunteer Firemen said Payton was pinned in the wreckage and rescuers used a power saw to cut into the damaged auto.  (Courtesy of the Daily Journal)
