We would like to devote our column this week to our local White River Township firemen.  Mrs. Glen E. Stout, of Peterman Road, was roused from her bed early Monday morning (around 3:30 a.m.) when a new gas furnace blew-up.  Mrs. Stout was alone at the time; her husband works nights at the Indianapolis Power and Light Company in Indianapolis.

Mrs. Stout called the firemen immediately and she stated that it was through their quick and intelligent work that her home and probably her life were saved.  She praised all the men for being so prompt.  They were at her home in less than 15 minutes and would have been there sooner had the roads been in better condition.  She, as many others of this community had never thought there would be need to call firemen but when it happened she fully realized what an efficient and well working team of firemen we have.  She wants everyone who reads this column to know how grateful she was and hope that all of us realize how fortunate we in this area, are.

It is true; we fear that many of us take such public servants in too light a view.  It isn’t until we hear of the fast and courageous work that they do, as in this case, that we realize our fortune.  Let’s all remember them in the future and help in any way we can to support these men and their fine work.  GOOD WORK MEN.  (Reprinted with permission from the Indianapolis Star)
