News from White River Twp VFD
The fire department was called two times the past week. On Tuesday, February 7, the department was called to the W.C. Caudle residence in Hiatt Addition No. 2. Mr. Caudle had suffered a heart attack. Upon arriving at the scene, oxygen was administered, helping Mr. Caudle to breathe. The Burkhart ambulance from Greenwood was called and the victim was rushed to St. Francis hospital, Beech Grove.
On Saturday, February 11, the department was called to the C. Holderman home located at the County Line road and State Road 37. The alarm was answered with two fire trucks and 15 firemen. The firemen found the home filled with smoke. After a quick check located the cause – an overheated furnace motor. Damage was slight.
The day firemen, with
First Lieutenant William McCreary and Second Captain Robert Blain in charge, did
a job Monday that has long been a project to be done. They undersealed the
department’s truck number one. This will make the truck last longer as it will
protect the under sides of the fenders and body which would normally rust out
after a period of time from the rocks, dirt and water that would hit it. A fine
job was done by all hands of the day firemen.
