News from White River Twp VFD
The fire department answered three calls the past week. The first was a Thursday morning, January 26, at the residence of Stoughten Surface in the Mount Pleasant addition, South Drive. Upon arriving with two trucks and eight firemen, no fire could be detected. After a quick check of the house, it was discovered that the fire detecting alarm system that is installed throughout the house had sounded when the bathroom had reached a temperature of 130 degrees F. because of the bathroom door being closed for a long period of time.
The second run was to the Rev. Rodger’s parsonage located on Morgantown road just south of State Road 37. The fire was caused by the furnace over heating, the fire burned through the floor and sub-flooring around it. Damages were slight as it was brought under control in a short time.
The third call was from Leslie Wright who lives in the Glendale Trailer Court. His wife had suffered an asthmatic attack oxygen was given the patient with the department’s resuscitator, after using three tanks of oxygen, it was decided she should be taken to the hospital. The Burkhart’s ambulance from Greenwood was called and it took her to a Marion county hospital. Firemen who made this run were Chief Russ Young, Assistant Chief Ralph Wilson, Robert Phillips and Robert Kelso.
