White River firemen start fund campaign

Mr. and Mrs. Almer O. Armstrong, who operate the Armstrong Orchards in White River Township, were the first contributors to the community’s fire fighters.  Assistant Chief Ralph Wilson, of the White River Volunteer department, is shown accepting a $35 check from Mrs. Armstrong, who had just commented, “I hope we don’t need you this year.”  Ed Hinkle, one of the volunteer’s chauffeurs, on the left, smiles as he watches the transaction.  The firemen started their campaign to raise funds to operate the department for another year.  Most of their income is derived from contributions by individuals.  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
