News from WRTVFD
This is the first news report from your White River volunteer fire department. It is designed to give the people of White River Township and opportunity to become more closely informed and to know the men who spend many of their spare hours in the safety of their community and interest in the fire department. Many walks of life are represented by the members of a volunteer unit. I will introduce each member, from chief on down, each week, along with any other news, giving a personal history of each.
It is vacation time again and, with the firemen being away at different times, makes it impossible to have all shift members on call. Our operators will summon every available fireman to the scene and, should additional help be needed, send a call to a neighboring fire department. We are still in need of additional firemen, especially those who could be on call during the daytime. If you are interested in becoming a member, please call Tucker 1-9011 or Tucker 1-0192.
On Saturday, July 2, the fire department responded to a call from the James Barnes farm on the Runyon road where a grass fire was burning out of control. Firemen had the fire out in half an hour. There was no value property damage. However, if the flames had continued to spread, it would have caused damage or possible loss of some valuable trees. We always feel the department has provided good service when fire damage is kept at a minimum. This is not possible at many fires, of course, but it is always our goal.
If you have been past the station
recently, we hope the new 40-foot flag pole caught your eye. It was installed
by members of the department. We hope to have `ole glory flying real soon.
Neighbors, its hot weather time again, so please be cautious when lighting
fires, especially when it’s dry and windy. Always stay with it until the fire
is out – completely out. Remember this summer – keep it safe!
