Current full-time hiring process
information:
The White River Township Fire Department in Greenwood is seeking
qualified individuals for the full-time position of Chief of Training
and Safety.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants for
this position must have a minimum of Fire Officer II, Instructor II/III,
Safety Officer, and a college-level building construction class or such
other certifications that may be determined equivalent by the District.
A minimum of Associate Degree and Fire Officer III must be obtained
within 6 months of appointment. Applicants for this position must also
be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of appointment to
the Department. Applicants must be a citizen of the United States and
must provide satisfactory proof of the date and place of their birth.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent at the time
of application and must also have a valid driver’s license. Applicants
must also be able to effectively and accurately communicate and
understand the English language. Applicants must have no prior felony
convictions. In addition to the general requirements set forth herein,
applicants must also meet all additional general and specific
requirements as contained in the District’s application packet that can
be obtained as set forth below. The District Board reserves the right to
determine, in its sole discretion, whether applicants have met the
minimum eligibility requirements to participate in the hiring process.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Protects life and property from fire, accidents, natural disasters, or
other occurrences where the intervention of the department and its
personnel can limit, contain, or prevent the loss of life and
destruction of property; shall be capable of performing a wide range of
activities, including fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency
medical services, equipment preparation and readiness, and public
relations; performs routine station maintenance and cleaning
requirements as per department policy.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
In the office, the individual
will need to be able to sit as well as view a computer monitor for long
periods of time. In the field, the individual may encounter the
following physical stresses: Standing, bending, or crawling for long
periods of time. Climbing or descending distances usually not more than
110 feet. May be subjected to confined spaces and extreme weather
conditions, heat, cold, high winds, lightning, rain and snow. May be
required to breathe compressed air utilizing an artificial breathing
source. Will experience interrupted sleep while on overnight duty. Move
and carry heavy objects and work overhead. The above statements are

efforts, or working conditions. White River Township Fire Department
reserves the right to change, amend, add, delete, and otherwise assign
any and all duties, responsibilities, and position titles as it deems
necessary to meet the needs of the department.
Starting
salary is $69,139 per year, plus
an attractive benefit package including, but not limited to, full
pension contribution, family health insurance, tuition assistance,
uniforms, longevity pay, sick leave, vacation leave, personal leave, and
holiday pay.
